Micronics flow-meters measure heat energy at Scottish university
In October 2016 a Micronics U3000 flow-meter was used by Energy Metering Technology Ltd (EMT) to measure the heat energy flowing through pipes at the University of Dundee. Managing Director, Kiran Chintala was confident that the Micronics unit would be ideal for this job. The Slough-based, mechanical, electrical and electronics engineering company had had a 30 year relationship with the designers and marketers of “Clamp-On” ultrasonic liquid flow meters for industry and commerce so could recommend their range of portable instruments and fixed meters for the needs of the University. The Micronics range is based on the use of non-invasive ultrasonic sound transmission to detect liquid flow velocity within closed pipes.
Energy Metering Technology Ltd (EMT) was formed to provide ‘turnkey’ solutions for energy and water management by the use of emerging technology advances in metering and communication systems. The company can meet the ever increasing interest in energy management among corporations and government targeted at energy, water and environmental management.
The U3000 is designed to work with clamp on transducers and accurately measures liquid flowing through a closed pipe. It eliminates the need for any mechanical parts to be inserted through the pipe wall or to protrude into the flow system and because it takes just a few minutes to install, there is no need to shut down flow or drain the system.
The potential for similar use is significant and EMT will continue to rely on the extensive Micronics range.
