Micronics heat meters replace conventional heat meters in Cheshire school

An independent Building & Energy Management Systems (BEMS) control system specialist used 3 Micronics U1000 heat meters to replace conventional heat meters in Alsager School, Crewe. Steve Page, Managing Director of Cheshire-based Automated Systems Ltd had used Micronics heat meters for a previous installation at Chester University so had complete confidence that the U1000 would perform well and fit the requirements of the school. In particular, the fact that the U1000 is non-invasive was a key attribute in the decision to replace the conventional meters because the pipes did not need to be cut into during installation, very important in a school.

The U1000 is a “Best Value”, ultrasonic clamp-on thermal, heat/energy meter that uses ultrasound to measure flow rate and PT100 temperature sensors to measure flow and return temperatures. It displays energy rate and totalised energy with pulse output and communication options, so it can be used as a standalone meter or as an integral part of an aM&T or BEM’s system. As an alternative to traditional inline energy meters, it can be used for energy management and billing applications in domestic and commercial, district or shared heating or cooling systems. It delivers major installation, cost and dry maintenance benefits over traditional inline products. It is very simple to install – basically connect the power and enter the pipe inside diameter, adjust the sensors and clamp-on the pipe. There are no specialist skills or tools required. There are significant key features and benefits of the Micronics unit including larger pipe range options – it is fully adjustable for 22mm – 115mm (4”)  and 125mm – 180mm (6″) OD; there is a new cross correlation flow measurement system and it comes with 1Mhz transducers to get through poor and old, thick wall pipes and larger pipework.

Automated Systems Ltd was established in 1974 and has been designing; installing, commissioning and providing fully integrated control and management systems to the Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) industry across the whole spectrum of the built environment. The Knutsford company has successfully completed many projects throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland and has a client base that crosses both public and private sectors.
