Caltech – Micronics portable flow-meter used to calibrate an in-line flow-meter

A PF D550 Portable Flowmeter helped Caltech of Birmingham calibrate a customer’s flowmeter which had already been installed in an effluent plant in Worcestershire. Kerry Foods wanted a comparison check to ensure that the readings obtained were corroborated. Steve Robinson, Caltech’s Instrumentation Engineer had heard about Micronics flowmeters and had borrowed one. The unit exactly met his requirements so the company purchased one in January 2016.

doppler flow meter - D550The PF D550 is used for either dirty or aerated liquids and monitors balance and flow from outside a pipe. It can also be used to troubleshoot problems with flow in full pipes and is ideal for use where a permanent flowmeter is not required, as in this case or to temporarily replace installed flow transmitters. It is ideal to evaluate performance of in-line flow meters and can be installed, calibrated and started-up in minutes. Operation is simple. The ultrasonic sensor is clamped onto the outside of a pipe. An acoustic pulse is reflected back to the sensor from particles or gases in the flowing liquid. The flow rate of any fluid can be measured as long as it contains air bubbles or solids. It is ideal for wastewater, slurries, sludge and most chemicals, acids, caustics and lubrication fluids.

Caltech provide a varied range of calibration, repair, maintenance and system improvement services to all kinds of industrial fields and manage large scheduled calibration contracts at various locations.

Steve Robinson will continue to use the unit for other clients.
