Micronics flowmeters regularly used by energy consultant
Energen, a specialist consultancy in energy and carbon management who help businesses reduce their carbon emissions and energy costs regularly use 2 Micronics U1000 heat meters to measure different parameters simultaneously for various tasks. For example, they needed to measure the heat input into the main calorifiers (large hot water storage tanks in which the water is heated via an external source) at a large University in London where the hot water was inexplicably running cold. The logged measurement data identified the problem as a lack of primary hot water flow at certain times of the day meaning that secondary hot water heating was negligible. This identified an apparent design, installation or commissioning problem. Additionally, measurement of actual hot water consumption at the same time identified very high flows when the water temperature reduced, therefore exacerbating the problem.
The Uxbridge-based company is a member of ESTA (Engineering Services Trade Association) and Micronics are too. Mike Harbord, the founder of Energen had used Micronics flowmeters successfully in the past and had complete confidence that the U1000’s would give him the data he required. They offered the flexibility to be used in a wide range of assignments. Furthermore the units were extremely cost effective and offer a quick and reliable flow measurement solution.
Mike finds that the Ultraflo 1000’s are perfect for his clients’ needs. “Installation costs are minimal because the system does not need to be drained down or pipes cut into. It is easily configured for pipe size saving time on site and therefore costs. It is a very cost-effective alternative to a traditional in-line meter installation. Because servicing is simple and straightforward downtime is kept to a minimum which is very important to our clients. Its operation has proved exceptional and Energen will continue to rely on our U1000’s.”
