Tempcon: Micronics flowmeters used to monitor energy usage in new build housing estate
21 Micronics U1000 flowmeters were used by Tempcon Instrumentation Ltd in a new build housing estate in London in January 2016 to monitor the flow of water, the temperature of the heating and to detect leaks. This was to satisfy the local authority that the builders were achieving efficiency targets.
Tempcon have used Micronics flowmeters on many occasions over the past 3 years. Gary Charles, Tempcon’s Operations Manager initially selected the Ultraflo 1000’s because they offer a quick and reliable flow measurement solution. The fact that there is no need to cut into pipes is an important factor in his choice. This in turn means that installation costs are minimal because the system does not need to be drained down or pipes cut into. The U1000 is configured for pipe size so there is nominal configuration on site and, with its easy to follow menu it is a cost-effective alternative to a traditional in-line meter installation.
Gary Charles has found the operation exceptional. “We installed the same flowmeters in a number of offices at Heathrow Airport in December 2015. All the offices are charged for heating and cooling and the Facilities Management staff wished to allocate the bills appropriately. The U1000 is ideal for these purposes.”
Tempcon, established in 1980 specialise in instrumentation and sensors (probes) for measuring, controlling and logging temperature, humidity, pressure, voltage, current, energy (kWhs), wind speed/direction, soil temperature and most other parameters required for process control, environmental research or quality control.
