City Building Glasgow use Micronics heat meters in city cleansing depots
In March 2015 Micronics U1000 heat meters were used by City Building, Glasgow, a building contractor which acts as the building service department of Glasgow City Council to complete all construction works. The business offers a diverse range of high quality construction and manufacturing operations including design and build projects. They were commissioned to investigate the issue of energy consumption because the 6 cleansing depots throughout the city, which use a communal heating system, demonstrated particularly high use of both heat and hot water. A new building management system remotely controlled and monitored energy consumption but there was no metering on site. Paul Farrelly, the company’s Senior Building Management Systems Manager was tasked with remedying this. He had heard about Micronics heat meters from Western Automation, a specialist technical distributor in the electrical control and automation marketplace and was confident that they would provide a reliable solution.
The Micronics U1000 is a fixed installation, clamp-on flowmeter that is easy to install and requires the minimum of information to be entered by the user. Unlike other clampon flowmeters, the U1000 transducer separation distance is factory preset to the internal diameter (ID) of the application pipe. Compact, rugged and reliable, the U1000 has been designed to provide sustained performance in industrial environments. Typical applications include hot water metering and flow measurement, flow measurement for heat metering, chilled water metering and flow measurement, potable water metering and flow measurement, process water metering and flow and ultra pure water measurement.
Paul Farrelly would definitely make use of Micronics flowmeters for similar applications in the future. “The Micronics units are non-intrusive so there was no need to cut into pipework, saving expense and crucially, time. Moving forward, I can envisage many uses for these excellent devices.”
